Custom Rectangle Highlighter

I use this simple rectangle highlight in my video tutorials regularly. It is easy to use and you can change the height, width, colour and weight of the line.

If you are creating demonstration videos or tutorials and need to quickly highlight areas of your video this generator may be what you need.

Download & Install the Custom Shape Plugin (Corrected)

1. Download the plugin
   Download Custom Rectangle Plugin.zip to your Mac.
2. Create the required folder structure
   Go to:
   Macintosh HD ▸ Users ▸ <your username> ▸ Movies ▸ Motion Templates ▸ Generators
3. Create a folder named Ben Halsall
   Inside the Generators folder, create a new folder called:
   Ben Halsall
4. Unzip and copy the plugin
   Unzip Custom Rectangle Plugin.zip, then copy the folder Custom Rectangle into the Ben Halsall folder.
5. Add the .localized extension (critical step)
   • Select the Motion Templates folder
   • Choose File ▸ Get Info
   • Rename the folder so it ends with:
     Motion Templates.localized
   • Repeat this step for the Generators folder so it becomes:
     Generators.localized

   Without this step, Final Cut Pro will not recognize the plugin.

6. Restart Final Cut Pro
   Fully quit and reopen Final Cut Pro.
7. Verify installation
   Open the Generators browser in Final Cut Pro.
   The plugin will now appear under:
   Generators ▸ Ben Halsall ▸ Custom Rectangle

Tip (optional but helpful)

If the plugin still doesn’t appear:

• Double-check spelling and capitalization
• Confirm the folder path matches exactly
• Restart Final Cut Pro again after any folder changes
